  • Total Time: 30
  • Yield: 6 Burgers 1x

Description

These spicy, flavour-packed slides are made with easy to make Indian chicken patties made with ground chicken, fresh spices & ginger-garlic. They’re topped with creamy, tangy sauce & crispy curry leaves.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Chicken Patty

  • 1 pound lean ground chicken
  • 1 large potato, boiled
  • 5 Garlic Cloves, grated
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 1/2 red onion, finely chopped
  • 3 Green Chilies or 1 Jalapeño, finely chopped (or more to taste)
  • 1/2 cup cilantro, finely chopped
  • 3/4–1 tsp salt
  • 2–4 tsp red chili powder, or to taste
  • 2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp cumin powder
  • 2–3 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 tbsp ghee

Homemade Sauce (or swap for a storebought one!)

  • 1 cup plain yogurt (or greek yogurt)
  • Squeeze of lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp chaat masala
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt

For the Burgers

  • 6 Brioche Burger Buns
  • Sliced Red Onion
  • Sliced Tomatoes
  • Your favorite cheese (I love pepperjack or gouda)
  • Curry Leaves (as many as you want)

Instructions

  1. Make the patty mixture : To a bowl, add the ground chicken use your hands to mash it into a smooth paste. Add the minced onion, mint/cilantro, ginger, garlic, green chili, garam masala, salt, red chili powder and cumin powder. Use your hands to mash up the potato and mix well to combine.
  2. Chill the mixture in the freezer or fridge for 5 minutes while you make the sauce.
  3. To make the sauce, blend all the ingredients under “for the sauce”. Adjust salt and cumin to taste.
  4. Shape the chicken mixture into 6 patties. Make sure your hands are wet to make it easier to shape and press down in the middle of the patty with your thumb so it cooks evenly without shrinking.
  5. In the same saucepan you plan to cook your patties, add some oil and the curry leaves. Cook on medium until they get nice & crispy. Set the curry leaves aside and leave any oil in the pan.
  6. Add some more oil to the pan if needed and place your chicken patties. Cook the chicken patties for 6-8 minutes on each size, or until completely cooked through. Towards the end, add the cheese and cover to let it melt.
  7. Assemble your burgers by toasting the buns, layer on the sauce, patties, onions, tomato and crispy curry leaves!
