Creamy Paris Hot Chocolate

It is so incredibly easy to make this creamy hot chocolate from scratch! It’s inspired by the Tiktok famous Paris hot chocolate videos and definitely worth making over the powdered mix.

You haven’t experienced luxury until you’ve had hot chocolate made from scratch with real, chopped up chocolate. For this recipe I use the combination of chopped up chocolate and cocoa powder to make is extra chocolat-ey. The freshly chopped dark chocolate makes this very velvety and rich, while the cocoa powder adds a strong chocolate aftertaste. Adding in the cornstarch makes this extra creamy and fluffy in texture. Finally, we finish off with a tiny pinch of salt and vanilla extract to bring the luxury to the next level

Every year around Christmas time, I love to get create with homemade gifts. To make this as a gift, just grate the chocolate bar into a fine powder and mix it with all the ingredients except for milk and vanilla extract. Stir to mix, pour it into a cute mason jar and attach a small handwritten note telling them how to make it!

For Each Cup Of Hot Chocolate You Need:

  • 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Handful of chocolate chips (or chopped up chocolate)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2-3 tsp sugar
  • 2 tsp cornstarch
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract, optional
  • small pinch salt

How To Make It

  • To start, do not turn on the stove. Place a saucepan on the stove and add in the cocoa powder, cornstarch and milk. Use a whisk or spatula to mix really well to make sure there are no lumps.
  • Then, add in the chocolate chips, sugar and salt. Now, turn on the stove on low to medium heat and stir continuously, allowing the chocolate to melt completely and heat up.
  • Turn the heat off and add in vanilla. It’s ready to serve!

How to Make the Tiktok Famous Paris Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Handful of chopped up chocolate (or chocolate chips)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 12 tsp sugar, optional and to taste
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, optional
  • 1/2 tsp instant coffee powder, optional
  • small pinch salt

Cinnamon Cardamom Whipped Cream

  • 23 tbsp heavy whipped cream
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • a bit of vanilla extract
  • pinch of ground cardamom (add more to taste)
  • pinch of cinnamon (add more to taste)

Instructions

  1. To make the whipped cream, add all the ingredients to a bowl and beat with a whisk until ti turns to whipped cream. It’ll take a couple minutes. Once it’s whipped set in the fridge until your hot chocolate is done.
  2. To start, do not turn on the stove. Place a saucepan on the stove and add in the cocoa powder, cornstarch and milk. Use a whisk or spatula to mix really well to make sure there are no lumps.
  3. Then, add in the chocolate chips, sugar and salt. Now, turn on the stove on medium-low heat and stir continuously, allowing the chocolate to melt completely and come to a simmer. To make it into a mocha, you can add in some instant coffee powder.
  4. Turn the heat off and add in the vanilla extract. It will thicken as you drink it. It’s ready to serve! Top with whipped cream, and optionally, chocolate shavings or crushed candy canes.
