Creamy Overnight Oats That Are Perfect For Meal Prep And Hitting Those Protein Macros!

As someone who went from hating oatmeal to eating oatmeal every day, I believe overnight oats are the perfect gateway oatmeal for the haters!

My favorite thing about Overnight Oats is how quick and easy they are to make. If you’re always in a rush in the morning but your stomach is yelling at you to eat something, this is for you! I cannot emphasize enough how easy this is to make. It’s one of those throw-everything-together recipes that will be sitting there ready for you in the morning. I am definitely not a morning person and one of my favorite things about these oats is that it is an easy recipe to whip up the night before so that you can just grab it and run in the morning!

Why Choose Overnight Oats

Everyone knows that oatmeal is nutritious but don’t just eat it cause it’s marketed as a “health food”. My favorite thing about oats is that once you have a reliable base recipe, the customizations are endless! I have a couple of good reasons for why Overnight Oats are my preferred way to enjoy oats:

  1. Easier to Digest: Overnight Oats are actually easier to digest than traditionally cooked oatmeal! Soaking the oats breaks down the starches which helps your body use the nutrients better especially for those of your who struggle with gluten.
  2. So Much More Variety: Like I mentioned before, there are endless possibiities with Overnight Oats. You can add in fruit, veggies, protein powder, etc., Since aren’t heating anything while making overnight oats, you have more flexibility with the ingredients you add in. You can use dairy free milks and yogurt without worrying about ruining the texture!
  3. Saves Time: Waking up and having the time to make a bowl of oatmeal isn’t a luxury everyone has – especially if you work full time or have early classes! I like to prep a few jars of overnight oats on Sunday nights, so breakfast is ready to go for the week!
  4. Protein Packed: There’s lots of ways to extra protein to this quick meal. My favorite thing to do is add a scoop of protein powder. I personally prefer the Protein World Salted Caramel or Birthday Cake (CODE: RAMYA30 for 30% off!) and highly recommend those. You can alternatively use greek yogurt or egg whites!

Why These Ingredients?

Every ingredient in this overnight oats recipe has a unique purpose! Oats are rich in soluble fiber so the increase satiety compared to ready to eat cereal. Flaxseeds are a good source of Omega-3 Fatty A and add to the “fullness factor”. You can use your favorite type of milk, as it ‘s main purpose is to help soften the oats overnight. Your sweetener of choice will obviously add sweetness to your concoction, but it helps enhance the oats to feel like you’re eating dessert. Some days I use honey and other days I use a sugar-free alternative.
